Part 2: What Types Of Tile Are There?

At Dolphin Carpet & Tile, we love providing our customers with the perfect home flooring. Whether it’s soft and comfortable carpet, sleek luxury vinyl, versatile laminate, stately hardwood, or customizable and durable tile flooring, our goal is to give our customers the flooring of their dreams. We prioritize customer satisfaction first and foremost. One of the ways that we have been able to help ensure that our customers are satisfied continually is by helping to educate them on our various products.

Our monthly blogs are an opportunity to speak directly to our customers. This blog aims to help answer their questions, provide guidance, and solidify our company as a resource they can rely on without so much as stepping foot inside our store. This month’s blog aims to shed insight into the various types of tile flooring available to customers.

So, if you’re interested in brand new tile flooring but don’t know ceramic from porcelain, we wanted to provide a resource to help better educate you on the types of tile out there. And if you missed part one of our discussion on the various types of tile, be sure to give that a read as well.

Dolphin Carpet & Tile may not offer some of the tile options outlined below. If you have questions about our inventory or tile offerings, contact us today or visit our showroom locations.

Mosaic Tile

Mosaic tiles are available in various colors, patterns, textures, shapes, and materials. Mosaic tile often appeals to homeowners looking to put their creative spin on a space. With the varying looks and stylistic design elements, mosaic tile allows for extreme mixing and matching. Mosaic tile can be used for backsplashes, on walls, or as a flooring option. However, if you do choose mosaic tile as your flooring option, you want to be sure it is porcelain or another durable material, as certain types of mosaic tile are thin and offer less in the way of durability.

Mosaic tiles may cost more than other options because they are more complicated to construct. As flooring, mosaic tile is tough on spills and stains. They will also stay attractive as the years pass.

Marble Tile

Marble is an incredibly high-end tile option that works well as a flooring, wall, or countertop. Similarly to hardwood flooring, each piece of marble tile is unique to that home and that homeowner, which gives the substance an added allure. The beauty and uniqueness of marble, combined with the complexity of installation and continued maintenance/resealing, makes for a flooring that will turn heads but will do so at a price.

Marble is less durable than other flooring options as it is vulnerable to scratches and stains. But if you’re willing to take on the upkeep, few other flooring options offer the natural beauty of marble tile within the home.

Limestone Tile

Limestone is a trendy stone flooring option for homeowners. It comes in a diverse range of colors, finishes, and cuts, and it’s also performance-driven enough to function well in indoor and outdoor settings. With its rustic, natural beauty, limestone is a flooring option that won’t go out of style any time soon.

Similar to marble, limestone is susceptible to scratches and damage from staining. Limestone is a porous rock, meaning that additional sealing will also be required over time. Overall, limestone will require more upkeep than other tile options we’ve detailed.
