Daily Care
Laminate floors can dull when unattended dirt acts as an abrasive on its surface. This can be avoided by sweeping, dust mopping, and vacuuming regularly to remove loose dirt and grit. Vacuum cleaner attachments are useful to pick up dirt from between planks or along edges. An occasional damp mopping is also suggested. After damp mopping, a clean, dry cloth should be used to wipe your floors thoroughly. Place doormats or walk-off mats at each entryway to collect excessive moisture and dirt.
It's important to lift heavy furniture instead of dragging or pulling it across your new flooring. Glides or floor protectors on the bottom of your furniture will prevent possible scratching or abrasion. Never try to refinish or sand your laminate floor.
A proper environment must be maintained, the temperature should not exceed 80o F, the lower the humidity the better. Chair pads or soft wheels must be used under any rolling type chairs. Felt pads must be placed under all furniture to help avoid damage. Avoid ultraviolet light damage by installing drapes or UV filters on windows. Avoid spike/stiletto high heels, and sharp or heavy objects as they can dent or scratch your new floor. House train pets and regularly trim their nails. Although extremely durable, extra precautions should be taken to avoid indentations and scratches.
Dealing with Stains and Spills
Spot cleaning and occasional complete cleaning of your laminate floor can be done using the manufacturer’s recommended products. Never use abrasive cleaners, steel wool, or scouring powder. Do not use soap-based detergents or mop-and-shine products. Never flood your floor with water or cleaner. Do not wax or polish your laminate floor.
For additional care procedures, please refer to the manufacturer’s care and maintenance instructions and recommendations. By understanding and following these basic care guidelines, you can be confident that your laminate flooring will provide you with many years of beauty and lasting performance.
