Preparing for Your Luxury Vinyl Installation Day
Being prepared and involved will help ensure the process is smooth and efficient. Knowing what to expect will also make the process a lot less stressful for you, your family, and your home. Get ready for the day that your new luxury vinyl flooring will arrive. Your understanding of the basics of installation will increase your knowledge of the process and enhance your confidence in the professionals working in your home.
Remove all furniture and other objects from the areas where the installation will take place. The floor covering, adhesive, and room temperature must be kept within a temperature range of 65-85 degrees for at least 48 hours before and after installation.
Read the manufacturer's installation instructions to see if your subfloor is suitable to install the new product over. Start with a clean job site and a prepared subfloor, and remove any items that may damage the flooring during installation. Substrates must be dry, clean, smooth, and free from paint, varnish, wax, oils, solvents, and adhesive from former flooring. A properly prepared subfloor is important as imperfections can telegraph through the new floor. This will not only be unattractive, but it will cause uneven wearing. Underlayments are intended to provide a smooth working surface but are not designed to correct or properly cover structural deficiencies.
During Luxury Vinyl Installation
Glue-down installations may be recommended for some commercial applications. The manufacturer's recommended adhesive should always be used to maintain the manufacturer’s warranty.
Many waterproof vinyl planks do not require glue for installation. They are installed using a floated method, much like laminate flooring. These glueless products are easy to install. The installer interlocks the planks to each other one at a time. To finish the floor, the installers add molding to cover the perimeter gap and install any additional trim pieces needed in doorways or where the vinyl meets a different type of flooring.
After Luxury Vinyl Installation
Good ventilation should be established 48-72 hours after installation. Usually, your installer collects the waste materials and leaves them at your trash collection site, but check with us so you are clear about the cleanup. Painted baseboards, woodwork, and paint may need retouching after the installation is complete. If necessary, this is your responsibility.
